I was born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in Michigan. I hold a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from the University of Oklahoma. I have worked in the museum/nonprofit field for 25 years, serving several different organizations across the Midwest, including the Great Lakes Naval Memorial and Museum, Schmidt Museum of Coca-Cola Memorabilia, and the OZ Museum. I returned to Michigan and settled in Frankfort in 2012, where I currently live with my husband and fellow artist Mark, teenage daughter, and our hound, Lucy.
My grandmother taught me needlepoint at a young age, but at that time, it didn’t stick. The onset of a global pandemic as well as the desire to quit smoking really fueled my motivation to investigate a more traditional hobby and figure out how to bring it into the present. I discovered that the traditional painted canvases didn’t challenge me, so I decided to create my own original designs and incorporate different stitches with no guide. I mostly use my own photographs or those of my painter/photographer husband, Mark. These have further developed into works featuring my home state of Michigan. I have exhibited all across Michigan and into other states such as Georgia and Virginia.
Each work takes anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months to complete. The majority of my work is available for purchase, but many rotate on and off exhibition across the Midwest. I also create needlepoint ornaments, jewelry, and other small works.
